Bill Lawrence Strat-Type Models — BC and BL Series

Bill Lawrence’s Strat-type guitars can be broadly divided into two categories: the BC series, which follows the traditional Stratocaster-style design, and the BL series, which showcases original Bill Lawrence innovations.

In general, models equipped with conventional single-coil pickups belong to the BC series, while those fitted with L-type pickups (such as the L-500 and L-250) featuring bar pole pieces comprise the BL series. According to the now-defunct website The Study of Bill Lawrence Guitars, the BL series was produced between 1984 and 1989.

The BL-1 mounted two L-500 pickups, the BL-2 featured three L-250 pickups, and the BL-3 combined an L-500 at the bridge with L-250s in the middle and neck positions. The L-500, both then and now, has maintained a dedicated following among players.

The body is made of two-piece center-joined alder, finished in opaque colors. Despite being mid-priced, the wood selection and craftsmanship reflect a remarkably high level of care and quality.
