Greco Custom-Order Model
Inside the control cavity, this guitar bears a clear “ORDER MADE” stamp.
In the 1970s, the words “order made” carried an especially alluring ring.
For a young boy who had never even seen, let alone touched, a high-end production model, the idea of a custom-ordered Greco guitar existed in an almost mythical realm.
He would daydream endlessly—his head shaved, wearing Onitsuka Tiger high-top sneakers—wondering what kind of person could possibly own such a guitar.
It took nearly forty years before I finally held a genuine Greco order-made instrument in my hands.
I believe this guitar was built in 1976, based on the “FE-01776H” marking on the fingerboard.
While the exact meaning of this code is uncertain, the inclusion of “76” and the close resemblance of its specifications to 1976–77 Greco Les Pauls make that production year almost certain.
From its appearance, it’s clear that the original owner likely sought to recreate George Harrison’s “Lucy” Les Paul.
The pickup rings and 3-ply pickguard are white—an interesting choice, since ivory versions were already available at the time.
Perhaps this was a deliberate aesthetic decision reflecting the owner’s personal taste.
Structurally, the guitar most closely resembles the EG-900 of the same period,
though it stands apart with its high-grade black ebony fingerboard and a prominent neck volute.
Weight: 4.43 kg (including strings)
