1975 Greco EG-1000B
Although this guitar has no serial number, the pickup stamp “25826” indicates that the pickups were assembled on August 26, 1975, so I have classified it as a 1975 model.
Greco Les Paul Customs from this year are characterized by their bold, heavy logo font, which immediately gives them a strong visual presence.
The black finish model gained popularity at the time thanks to Kazuo Takeda, guitarist for the influential band Creation, who famously used one.
Back then, these guitars appeared fairly often at auction, but in recent years (as of 2016), they have become increasingly difficult to find.
At first glance, it might seem that the only difference between this black model and the Cherry Sunburst version is the color—but that’s not the case.
The Cherry Sunburst model has a two-piece top, whereas this black model has a three-piece top.
With Greco, it was common practice to use multi-piece construction for guitars with opaque finishes, since the joints would be hidden under the solid color.
Weight: 4.51 kg (including strings)
