1976 Greco EG-1000R
The pickup stamp reads “16330,” indicating that the pickups were assembled on March 30, 1976.
At the time, the top-tier Les Paul Custom model in Greco’s lineup was the EG-1500, but that model soon transitioned—along with the EG-1200—into the Project Series, leaving the EG-1000 as the highest-grade model in the regular line.
This guitar is equipped with U-3000 pickups, which were reportedly built using magnets imported from Alembic.
Interestingly, the U-3000 stamp is identical to that on my EG-900CR, which seems too much of a coincidence to ignore; perhaps the pickups for both models were assembled during the same production batch.
Specifications include a two-piece hard maple top, a two-layer mahogany back, and a three-piece maple neck with fret-edge binding and an ebony fingerboard.
As expected for a top-tier model of its era, it also features Grover tuners.
In recent years, examples like this have become increasingly difficult to obtain.
