1975 Greco EG-1000 (Wine Red)
Until I acquired this guitar, I had no idea that this color variation even existed.
The 1975 catalog lists only Black and Red Sunburst, so for convenience, I’ll refer to this finish as WR (Wine Red).
Greco Les Paul models only began receiving stamped serial numbers in 1976.
For guitars produced before that, identifying the production year requires checking the pickup stamp.
In this case, the second digit of the number stamped on the back of the pickup is “5,” indicating 1975.
The solder joints in the wiring remain untouched, still sealed with virgin solder, meaning the circuitry has never been modified — making the pickup information highly reliable.
When this guitar was listed for sale, it was in terrible condition:
the frets were rusted solid, the tailpiece and bridge were missing, and the diamond inlay on the headstock was cracked.
I restored it using period-correct original parts for the tailpiece and bridge.
From my experience, EG-1000s from this period tend to have fragile diamond inlays.
Even my Cherry Red example — otherwise in excellent condition — shows slight cracking in the same area.
Weight: 4.46 kg (including strings)
