Greco EG-1500 Project Series
In May 2008, I finally acquired the EG-1500 Project Series, the flagship model of the line—and the very guitar I had dreamed of owning since my junior high school days.
I had long believed that the Project Series intentionally used plain, unfigured maple tops, but this guitar clearly displays flame figuring, disproving that theory.
Except for some minor wear on the back, the instrument is in remarkably good condition—it’s clear that it was carefully played and lovingly maintained.
Given the delicate nature of its finish, light scratches are inevitable. The knobs have been replaced with speed knobs.
Judging from its condition, it seems this guitar sat unplayed for quite a long time; when it arrived, the frets had developed a faint greenish corrosion.
Opening up a guitar like this is always an exhilarating experience.
Naturally, I checked the pickups—if it was made in 1977, I expected to find U-4000s.
However, upon inspection, I discovered that it was fitted with Gibson New PAFs.
Although it’s a bit disappointing that the pickups are not original, I’ve chosen to view this as simply part of the instrument’s unique history.
Inside the front pickup cavity, I found a handwritten “カ” enclosed in a circle.
I’ve seen examples stamped with this mark before, but this is the first time I’ve encountered one written by hand.
Weight: 4.68 kg (including strings)
