A Greco EG-800 made manufactured in 1979. I call this guitar “Freckles”.
Eye-catching many freckles on its top. It’s so rare. I replaced its pegs to used Grover’s when I got it.
The fingerboard inlays were made of pearl oyster. On those days, EG-800 and upper grade standard Les Pauls had them, EG-700 and lower grade had pearloid cell inlays, but EG-800GS(gold top model) is the same as latter.
They mounted PU-0 pickups characterized by double adjustable bobbins. In those days, Greco seems to have started increasing pickup output. I measured the output of Greco pickups I have.
U1000 7.55~7.71kΩ(number2 ave.7.63kΩ)
U2000 7.65~7.91kΩ(number3 ave.7.76kΩ)
U3000 7.66~8.09kΩ(number12 ave.7.82kΩ)
U4000 7.84~8.13kΩ(number5 ave.7.98kΩ)
Pickup grade seems to be related to its output. Now I measured these PU-0, the result was 8.15kΩ(neck) and 8.09kΩ(bridge), still higher. Plane surfaced PU-1 pickups mounted on MR-1000 were still higher over 8.4kΩ. High output might be a requirement of those period.
PU-0s make a little crispy sound, not so bad. 4.14kg(includes strings, excludes pickguard). (Updated 2016.8.24)
