1976 Greco EG-900 (Cherry Red)
This example has no serial number, but the pickup stamp “6330” indicates that the pickups were assembled on March 30, 1976.
Since Greco’s Les Paul serial-number system began in 1976, some guitars from that year—like this one—were produced without serial stamps, while others already had them.
The model appears in both the 1976 (Vol. 5) and 1977 (Vol. 6) catalogs, where the only listed color option is CR (Cherry Red).
However, as with many other Greco models, it seems that non-catalog color variations were also produced.
Originally, this guitar came equipped with unstamped U-3000 pickups, which were replaced later in 1976 with U-4000s.
By 1977, Greco had switched again—fitting the EG-900 with DiMarzio PAF double-cream pickups and Greco’s original MH802 tuners, which were modeled after Grovers.
Using my EG-1200 and EG-1000 as references, I measured the resistance values (kΩ) of both the stamped U-3000 and U-4000 pickups.
The U-3000 measured 7.80–8.06 kΩ, while the U-4000 measured 7.84–7.91 kΩ, showing very little difference.
However, the pickups on this guitar read 7.66 kΩ (neck) and 7.44 kΩ (bridge)—slightly lower than either of the stamped versions.
This suggests that the unstamped U-3000 was essentially a different product from the stamped U-3000.
Weight: 4.30 kg (including strings)
