1976 Greco EG-900 (Tobacco Brown)
For convenience, I’ll list the color of this guitar as TB (Tobacco Brown).
The pickup stamp indicates that assembly took place on March 31, 1976.
I purchased this guitar from a shop listing. The seller described it as either an EG-700 or an EG-900, but since they couldn’t confirm which, it was sold as an EG-700.
However, the mother-of-pearl inlays and Grover tuners are both features specific to the EG-900. While it’s possible the tuners were replaced, the inlays certainly were not—so I consider this instrument to be an EG-900, acquired at a very reasonable price.
Although the catalog lists only Cherry Red as the available color for this model, Greco’s history of producing non-catalog color variations makes this Tobacco Brown finish unsurprising.
A striking bird’s-eye maple pattern appears on the treble side of the top—something rarely seen so clearly on other Greco guitars.
The guitar is fitted with unstamped U-3000 pickups.
The measured resistance values are 7.96 kΩ (neck) and 7.66 kΩ (bridge).
Weight: 4.47 kg (including strings)
